Vacuum cleaners FAQs
Why does my vacuum sound so much louder than normal?
Those who have noticed their vacuum suddenly becoming much louder may
need to check the fan, since a broken fan is often the culprit which
makes the vacuums louder. In order to check the fan, you will need to
take the front of the machine apart. Spin the belt motor pulley slowly
and view the fan.
If the fan seems to be not spinning properly or not spinning at all,
there might be a good chance that the fan is broken. If there is something
inhibiting the movement of the fan, it should be fairly simple to just
move the object out of the way. But if the fan is not working for any
other reason, perhaps it might be best to take the vacuum in to be fixed.
My vacuum seems harder to push than it once was. What’s
wrong?
If it has become harder to push the vacuum cleaner, there is a good
chance that the belt has broken or become stretched out so much that
the roller will not spin, even when the vacuum makes contact with the
ground. Or the problem could be that the vacuum has been lowered too
much to work properly in the carpet that needs to be vacuumed. Of course,
if you have a self-propelled vacuum cleaner, neither of these previous
answers would likely apply.
Why does my vacuum smell like burnt rubber?
Assuming that you aren’t speeding through your house chores so
fast that you are burning rubber, the likely problem is that the brush
roller is not spinning, even though the motor pulley still is. When
this happens, friction is created. This causes the vacuum belt to begin
to burn. This is often caused by a temporary jam of the roller. If the
jam is not temporary, there is a good chance that the roller itself
might be bound up with hair or string.
